AI and Alienation
Part II of our conversation with Ben Hunt of Epsilon Theory and Second Foundation Partners
In Part II of our discussion on how AI will transform our relationship with narratives, we covered fresh new ground while reinforcing old concepts.
We discussed the power of words - how humans are biologically wired to respond to the stories we convey through words. We also talked about how social media is tapping into these biological hooks to push society towards a sort of 'hive mind' type of state...which Ben believes we must try to resist.
AI could exacerbate these issues by creating more alienation. When you have the perfect conversation in your pocket - one who will never ghost you or give you attitude, who is perfectly predictable - then will we lose tolerance for real human connection which is messy and unpredictable?
If we do, we will lose something precious in the process - real human friendship - something Ben thinks AIs simply cannot replicate. The conversation ranged from a discussion on how society is transforming, how we can try to move that transformation in a healthy direction, and what we can do to create small islands of authentic human connection in our own lives.
